Welcome to the wonderful world of second grade! I have taught several grade levels over the past 23 years, but second grade is my favorite! I first created this unit in 2012 to celebrate the special day “The Second Day In Second Grade.” It was a unique celebration that helped me get to know my new students and their academic abilities.
I got wonderful feedback from my original unit, and many second grade teachers said they wished they had more than one day to fully utilize this unit. Due to popular demand, I updated the unit in 2013 so that each page would also have the “Second Week In Second Grade” page headers. Once again I got terrific feedback that teachers liked the new flexibility of this unit.
This year some teachers said they wish they could use these activities any time during the school year! So once again I have updated this unit to have three different sets of page headers. Now you can just pick the printable with the best heading to fit your individual classroom needs. I also included three cover pages so you have the option to make a booklet for each student from the printables in this unit. Have a wonderful year teaching second grade!

TpT Blog:

First Week Back-to-School Essentials

Hooray! Let’s celebrate back-to-school. If you feel prepared, it can be enjoyable instead of a drag. TpT is tickled about all of the amazing resources folks are offering for the very first week(s) back. But don’t just take our word for it!
“Even teachers get nervous about the first day back,” says Irene Hines. ”First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg has always been one of my favorite books. I was a kid who was ALWAYS nervous on the first day of school… so guess what? I grew up to be a teacher who ALWAYS gets nervous on the first day of school. This book (along with my First Day Jitters ~ Back To School Activity Unit For The First Month Of School) helps the children see that they aren’t alone with their jitters.”

The Biggest Pumpkin Ever By Steven Kroll

Looking for a fun book for the season of fall? Look no further.... this one is a must for every classroom library! Every year I can't help but laugh as the adorable field mice pull the giant pumpkin (by motorcycles) to the town pumpkin contest. Each year, my second grade class loves it! I also like to add a little commentary to the book as I read aloud...

What???.... you didn't know that ALL field mice wear helmets as they ride their motorcycles
through the fields, looking for large pumpkins to drag behind them?!?  ;)

You always get that one kid that looks at you like "Are you for real lady?"

Here is a fun autumn project you can create with your students after reading this book.

I just added a new fall project to this best selling unit! If you already own it, download now for your free update! If you don't, check it out! Everything you need to make this project is in my unit:

I’m so excited about my newly revised “Goldie Socks” unit because it can be used in so many different ways in your classroom! If you have the book Goldie Socks and the Three Libearians, written by Jackie Mims Hopkins, this can be used as a Reading Workshop Unit to focus on picking “just right books.” In addition, if you love to work with any of the “Goldilocks And The Three Bears” stories or do a thematic unit on bears, this packet can keep you and your students busy for weeks! The contents are flexible to meet the individual needs of your classroom. Whether you want just a few days of fun or literature activities that span several weeks of school, this unit will work for you. I created a variety of foldables and activities to differentiate for each teacher’s wishes. Also included are a large variety of graphic organizers and printables for individual, group and whole class lessons. In addition, I have created anchor charts and printables with two different fonts, depending on your preferences and ages of your students. This variety is not meant as redundancy for your classroom, but rather as a way for you to differentiate your instruction for individual students or as a change of pace when you use this unit year after year. I never do all the activities in this unit with my class….there is too much! Each year I pick and choose what works for me. I like to try different activities at the beginning of each school year instead of doing the same thing year after year. This unit helps me do that with over 130 pages to choose from! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
